Miguel Ramirez
Community Specialist, L.A. Care Health Plan
Miguel Ramirez brings a powerful combination of community advocacy, education, and health plan operations to the Executive MPH program. He is currently a Community Specialist at L.A. Care Health Plan, where he has been serving since 2023. This role allows him to directly apply his expertise in health education and community advocacy to advance the mission of one of the nation’s largest public health plans.
Miguel holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Language and Literature from UCLA, which informs his ability to engage diverse populations, particularly in his area of interest: healthcare reform and health equity.
His background is rich with educational and research experience. Prior to L.A. Care, Miguel served as a Foreign Language Teacher at the Daegu International School in South Korea and worked as an academic tutor at South El Monte High School. These experiences highlight his skill in conveying complex information and supporting diverse learning environments. His academic interests in health policy/data analysis and the intersection of climate change with public health demonstrate his commitment to addressing complex, large-scale challenges.
How do you spend your free time?
“I like to exercise (calisthenic workouts), ride my bike around Los Angeles, and hang out with friends and family during my free time.”
Why did you join the EMPH program?
“I joined to advance my career to become a working professional and further personal growth. Also, I did my undergraduate at UCLA so I wanted to return and maximize the resources the campus offers this time around.”
