Senior Policy Analyst, AltaMed Health Services

 

Maya Camacho is a highly accomplished policy professional dedicated to driving change within the health sector. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy and Minor in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley in 2021, where she honed her analytical skills while holding extensive leadership positions, including Co-Chair of Hermanas Unidas and Co-Communications Chair for the Political Economy Student Association.

 

Maya currently serves as a Senior Policy Analyst at AltaMed Health Services, one of the nation’s largest Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). In this role, she is directly involved in shaping and analyzing policies that impact community health and access to care.

 

Prior to joining AltaMed, Maya was the Assistant Director of Public Affairs at Administrative Services Cooperative, Inc., where she partnered with 22 cities across Los Angeles County and helped secure funding to expand critical transportation and mobility services. She also gained valuable legislative advocacy and communications experience as a Junior Associate at Mercury Public Affairs, working across the firm’s Los Angeles and Sacramento offices.

 

Maya’s interest in public policy began early through involvement in local city council and superior court campaigns, as well as an internship in the Office of Congresswoman Linda Sánchez. Her combined experience in political advocacy, public affairs, and health policy positions her as a thoughtful and effective leader prepared to navigate complex challenges in health administration.

 

How do you spend your free time?
“I enjoy traveling and exploring new places, especially through local coffee shops and restaurants. Spending quality time with my family and friends is one of my favorite ways to reconnect and recharge.”

 

Why did you join the EMPH program? 
“I joined the EMPH program to deepen my understanding of the healthcare system and the policies that shape access, quality, and outcomes. Through the program, I aim to strengthen my ability to better serve the patients and communities I work with by applying data driven and equity centered approaches to public health practice.”
