COPE Health Scholars Programs

COPE Health Scholars provides an educational opportunity for individuals interested in making a difference in healthcare, advancing their careers, and building lifelong relationships.

The Health Scholar Program provides a 30-40 hour quality educational experience in combination with hands-on involvement, allowing participants to become part of the patient care team and assist with direct patient care. Scholars shift alongside nurses, physicians, allied health professionals and administrators while rotating through inpatient, outpatient and administrative settings.

COPE Health Scholar offers a number of programs that fit any stage in your journey towards becoming a healthcare professional.

International Health Scholar

Over the course of one week, students will explore different aspects of the U.S. healthcare system and learn about a career in healthcare (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, allied health, and public health) through lectures taught by UCLA professors as well as trainings, hospital tours, guest lectures, and university visits. Students will connect with other students from around the world while touring Los Angeles. Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of completion from UCLA. Sessions are available in the winter, spring, and summer.

Summer Pre-Med Scholar

Get ready for an intense summer experience. You will start with a week-long training program concluding with written and practical exams. Upon passing the exams, you will move into an 8-week learning program including hands-on patient care experience mirroring the Health Scholar program along with intensive MCAT review and supplementary workshops to prepare you for medical school admissions. This is a great opportunity for pre-med students who live outside the immediate geographic areas of the sites to get the hands-on training offered by COPE Health Scholars.
