06 Aug UCLA Online MHA Candidate Dr. Dana Adyani-Fard Launches Dental Care Product
UCLA Online MHA Candidate Dr. Dana Adyani-Fard has launched Blessand, an innovative gum care product featured in June 2025 on television show Die Höhle der Löwen (translated as “The Lion’s Den”), which is Germany’s version of Shark Tank.
Co-founder and managing director of Blissandmore in Düsseldorf, Dr. Dana presented her own Blessand Intensive Serum No. 7 on the June 23, 2025, broadcast. A combination of active ingredients including chamomile, green tea, lotus, and mint extracts, as well as propolis and hyaluronic acid, is designed to soothe gums and strengthen their protective barrier. The serum is intended as a supplement to the evening dental care routine. We caught up with Dr. Dana to learn more.
How did you determine there was a need for this in the dental market?
Dr. Dana Adyani-Fard: The idea for the product grew directly out of my clinical experience. Many of my patients were looking for an all-natural solution to support their oral care routines. Not as a replacement for treatment, but as a complement to what they were already doing, particularly in preventive care. Whether they were wearing aligners, mouth guards, or other oral appliances, they wanted something that would fit into their routines and support the gum and periodontal structures, especially overnight.
Over time, I realized there was a clear gap in the market for a product like this, something science-informed yet natural, simple to use, and designed with modern dental care in mind.
It’s not about promising miracles; it’s about giving people a well-designed, thoughtful option that fits their lifestyle and encourages long-term care.
Tell us about your experience on Die Höhle der Löwen.
Dr. Dana Adyani-Fard: Being on Die Höhle der Löwen was an incredible and humbling experience. It gave me the chance to present not just a product, but a vision. One that is grounded in both clinical insight and patient-centered innovation.
What set your product apart, to gain the attention of the TV show?
Dr. Dana Adyani-Fard: What set my product apart was its focus on prevention, natural formulation, and real-world applicability. It wasn’t created in a lab removed from the day-to-day realities of dental care. It was developed with patients in mind, based on what I’ve seen and heard in my own practice.
The fact that it supports people using oral appliances, integrates easily into daily routines, and reflects a broader shift toward holistic, preventive dentistry made it stand out.
The investors saw that it was timely, relevant, and backed by a meaningful mission.
What went into your decision to apply to UCLA’s MHA program and how do you plan to utilize your degree?
Dr. Dana Adyani-Fard: My decision to apply to UCLA’s MHA program was driven by a desire to better understand how healthcare functions beyond the clinic. Specifically, how systems, innovation, and public health intersect. I wanted to position myself not just as a healthcare provider, but as someone who can create solutions that scale and serve broader needs.
Many of the courses were directly applicable to my journey and extremely helpful. They helped me build a solid business case, understand population health frameworks, and most importantly recognize the role of prevention in managing the double burden of disease.
Prevention isn’t just about oral health; it’s foundational to overall health. Many systemic diseases have manifestations in the mouth and the earlier we recognize and address these, the better outcomes we can create across the board. That’s why it plays such an important role in both modern dentistry and population health. With the MHA classes and lectures, I feel equipped to help bridge that gap. Between personalized care and system-level impact. I truly appreciate all the insights I’ve gained so far from the MHA classes. They have played a significant role in my start-up journey, helping me align the product vision with broader healthcare needs and structure it with sustainability and system impact in mind.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Dr. Dana Adyani-Fard: What continues to inspire me is the power of small, consistent actions. When people have access to products that are simple, natural, and grounded in evidence, they’re more likely to engage in prevention, rather than just reacting to problems.
I’m proud of what we’ve built so far, but I see this as just the beginning. My goal is to continue developing solutions that reflect the future of oral healthcare: integrated, preventive, and human-centered, where oral health is fully recognized as a key pillar of overall well-being.
