ExecHPM Scholarship and Award Recipients Recognized at HPMAA Dinner

Each year, the UCLA Fielding Executive Programs Office in Health Policy and Management awards outstanding EMPH and MHA students for their leadership and positive contributions to our graduate programs. The winners are announced at the UCLA Health Policy and Management Alumni Association (HPMAA) Leaders of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow Annual Dinner, which this year was held on May 18, 2026, at the Bel-Air Bay Club in Pacific Palisades, California. The dinner is widely attended by leading healthcare executives from throughout the United States.

Ann G. Quealy Memorial Fellowship Endowment Award: Miguel Ramirez

One EMPH student is carefully chosen each year by their cohort, based on overall achievement, concern for others, humor, and a desire to reach his or her highest potential in life while bringing out the best in others.

Congratulations to Miguel Ramirez, our 2026 awardee. Thank you for your positive contributions to the culture of the HPM Department and the EMPH program.

Lee Thomassen Healthcare Finance Fellowship: Trishna Singh

The Lee Thomassen Healthcare Finance Fellowship provides financial support in the amount of $1,000 towards tuition for a promising second year EMPH student based on academic achievement in their first year, showing exceptional promise in accounting and finance. Congratulations to Trishna Singh, this year’s recipient.

Levin-Gordon Scholarship: Maite Medina

The Levin-Gordon Executive MPH Scholarship provides a scholarship in the amount of $2,500 towards tuition for a promising second year student in the EMPH Program, based on academic achievement. Awardees are selected in consultation with program faculty for exceptional work, leadership, and demeanor during their first year in the program.

MHA Outstanding Student Award: Shaunessy Burton

The MHA Outstanding Student Award is carefully chosen each year by faculty, based on overall academic achievement. Congratulations to Shaunessy Burton, our 2026 awardee. Thank you for your positive contributions to the MHA Program.

Paul Torrens $5K Scholarship: Kisa Hilliard and Henry Phan

Open to continuing MPH, MHA, or EMPH students, the Health Policy and Management Alumni Association (HPMAA) sponsors an annual scholarship initiative in honor of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health Department of Health Policy and Management’s beloved Dr. Paul Torrens and his legacy career of bridging the academic and practice worlds. Congratulations to this year’s winners, EMPH student Kisa Hilliard and MHA student Henry Phan, for their dedication and hard work. Applications for the next academic year will be open in March 2027.

EMPH Sinaiko Business Plan Awardees: Maite Medina, Trishna Singh, Emily Brown

Congratulations to EMPH students Maite Medina, Trishna Singh, Emily Brown (Team: SafeBite Technologies), the EMPH Sinaiko Business Plan Competition Award Winners. They proposed an innovative risk-management screening tool that would help food vendors identify and stop potential contamination before it reaches the customer.
